The ambition

Make the next stage of growth intentional.

A growing retail footprint. A fast-moving ecommerce business. Licensed collections bringing a different customer into the brand. The question was how the people, systems, and customer relationships behind johnnie-O could grow together. Angle worked alongside its leaders to make that question concrete: who should own the work, what the technology should enable, and which customer behaviors deserved attention next.

  1. 01

Give the customer journey an owner.

We recommended closer alignment between retail and ecommerce under DTC, with product management connecting technology, merchandising, marketing, and customer feedback. Role-by-role discussions clarified the need for product ownership, testing, content operations, and analytics. A future-state organization chart brought those choices into the leadership conversation.

  2. 02

    Make technology a business decision.

We helped evaluate the headless storefront against a Shopify theme-based approach, considering agency dependency, internal ownership, content workflows, and the future roadmap. The notes record executive support for the recommended direction. Migration and POS changes remained future decisions; the strategic contribution was a clearer basis for evaluating them.

  3. 03

Find the customer story inside the growth.

Angle presented a six-KPI customer-health diagnostic, then examined licensed-product buyers as a distinct cohort. The analysis identified lower repeat purchasing among those customers and sharpened a strategic question: how could a first purchase for a favorite team introduce someone to the wider johnnie-O wardrobe?

  4. 04

Get hands-on with the everyday friction.

We also built and demonstrated a product line-book parser that converted PDF product information into structured data and web-ready exports. The working session surfaced formatting fixes and the need for human review. It was a practical prototype for the team to test, alongside recommendations for more consistent source data.

Inside the work / Explore the decisions

Three decisions. One connected business.

Step inside the strategic work. Each chapter connects a business question to Angle’s contribution and the decision it helped clarify.

AlignWho owns the customer journey?

Angle’s organizational recommendations connected retail, ecommerce, lifecycle marketing, and product ownership. The leadership team discussed a future-state DTC chart; the notes also recorded approved hiring plans in analytics, content, operations, and merchandising. This gave the conversation specific roles and responsibilities. It does not establish that every proposed reporting-line change was implemented.

01 / People: Align — Who owns the customer journey?.

02 / Platform: Simplify — What should the team be able to do for itself?. We framed commerce architecture around operating needs: content autonomy, vendor accountability, testing, and a manageable roadmap. Executive support for the recommended platform direction was documented. The product-data demo made another part of the opportunity tangible. A completed migration, production rollout, or realized cost saving is not claimed.

03 / Customers: Deepen — How does a fan of the team become a fan of the brand?. The customer-health scorecard and licensing cohort analysis focused the discussion on the second purchase. We recommended exposing licensed-product buyers to the core collection and exploring targeted lifecycle journeys and pilots. Those were strategic recommendations alongside johnnie-O’s own testing plans, not an Angle program with measured post-launch results.

What it makes possible

A clearer next move. Across the whole business.

The strategic impact was a more specific growth agenda: defined ownership, a platform direction to evaluate, a demonstrated workflow prototype, and a customer segment to understand and nurture. This is Angle Studio in practice—bringing product, engineering, and retention thinking into the same conversation, then getting close enough to make the work tangible.

About this strategic engagement.

Based on twelve relevant Granola meeting records from August 2025 through August 2026, with the substantive advisory work documented through January 2026. The story describes recommendations presented, analysis performed, leadership discussions, and a prototype demonstrated. Approved hiring plans and executive support are reported as meeting-note observations, not proof that Angle caused hiring decisions or completed an organizational restructuring. The six-KPI diagnostic and licensing analysis informed strategy; private financial and cohort figures are omitted. The notes do not verify a completed commerce migration, production adoption of the parser, or an Angle loyalty/lifecycle launch with measured outcomes. No revenue lift, retention lift, cost saving, or causal attribution is claimed. Existing johnnie-O brand photography illustrates the story; it is not engagement or prototype documentation.
